The Lindauer Tor

Immenstadt had three larger entrance gates, the Kemptener Tor, also known as the Metzgertor, to the north, the Sonthofener Tor, also called the Pfaffentor, to the east and the Lindauer Tor, also called the Staufener Tor or Schollentor, to the west.

The Lindauer Tor was built as part of the town fortifications in 1360. Until the creation of corresponding rooms in the castle, it once housed the Immenstadt dungeons, hence its alternative name “prison tower”.

In 1685, a count’s chancellery was built at the gate. This building served as a customs house with archive and service rooms. This listed building was once the entrance to the Lindauer Tor.
Due to expensive maintenance costs, the gate was demolished in 1806.
